Apparition is a mixed media painting of a vintage lace dress from the Ghost Dress series inspired by a visit to the Waitomo Caves Hotel where Collette had a ghostly encounter she would rather forget.
The hotel was built in the early 1800s, and is said to be one of the top ten most haunted places in New Zealand. It has appeared in documentaries and the trust who own it perfer to not discuss the ghostly side of the hotel's history.
Legend has it that the hotel sits atop a portal to otherworldly realms, amplifying its reputation for supernatural occurrences.
Collette, a New Zealand Contemporary Artist based in Waikato, channels the eerie atmosphere of the Waitomo Caves Hotel into the Apparition, an original handpainted piece of New Zealand art by a New Zealand artist. it's a ghostly artwork that speaks of an era long ago.
